Furniture for Backs was founded by Melbourne Chiropractor Dr Michael Crane in 2006. The company specialises in recommending spinal related furniture items such as mattresses, pillows, computer chairs and standing desks to those with a health care complaint.

Furniture for Backs is built on the collaboration between DR MICHAEL CRANE, an experienced Chiropractor with specialised ergonomic knowledge, and other qualified musculoskeletal health care professionals from the Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Myotherapy and Rehabilitation fields.

Biomechanical conditions or complaints are common within the community. Whether the problem is a degenerative spinal disc, a post-surgical scenario (laminectomy & fusion or joint replacement) or a postural scoliosis, furniture selection is challenging.

Furniture for Backs is the result of a long-time devotion with caring for patients and searching for furniture more suitably designed for the human body, particularly the most important body part – the spine.

The passion came from Dr Michael Crane – a Melbourne based Chiropractor practicing in the inner eastern suburb of Deepdene. Dr Crane grew frustrated at being unable to assist his patients with a furniture recommendation. The available furniture options in the market were either causing or exacerbating his patient’s health care problem. So, he decided to do something about it.

Dr Crane initially invested hundreds of hours consulting a range of different people and organisations. Beginning with his own patients, health care providers, furniture manufacturers, furniture retailers, industrial designers etc. In addition to attending numerous courses and workshops regarding Ergonomic principles and furniture design.
